All
As you are all aware, we've had plans to run a series of first aid courses for the club paddlers. I had a massive responce to the first email, but everyone wanted different things.
So far we have the following planned, but not finalized.
1) We will be holding the basic BCU, 8hr course from Kirkstall, once we've got the dates sorted out, it will be on a Saturday, hopefully in January (3rd or 31st) or in March if we can get the teaching rooms. Assuming there isn't a charge for the room, the course will cost £41.25 and includes a copy of the first aid manual and use of all training equipment. There are 12 places available. If there is enough demand then we could plan a second one these later in the year.
2) If you can get funding from your employer, we can offer a single day course at St Gemma's. The course is midweek, so you'll also need time off. The cost of this course is £85 and again include the book and use of the training aids, it also includes lunch and refreshments. The course is Emergency first aid for the workplace (one day). The benefit to your employer, is that they will have a first aider on the premises, any employer of 5 or more people must have a first aider on the premises by law, so it could be a help to them too. The course provider has offered to stay behind and cover all the additional parts of the BCU syllabus (there may be an additional charge for the BCU certificate)
3) 16 hour courses are required by those wishing to move their coaching up to level 3 standards. As a club, we do not have enough demand for this, however the course provider is running these course at a cost of between £90 and £110 (discount for 3 or more people and BCU membership). Dates for these are 21st and 22nd Feb, 28th and 29th March, 9th and 10th March, 20th and 21st June
4) 24 hour courses as with 16 hour courses, we don't have enough interest to block book these. The course provider has a course planned for the 22nd-23rd and 24th January, this is an FAW (24 hour course) possibly at Leeds University, price on application
5) Wilderness First Aid, this is a one off session probably held with a different company, in the Summer, it'll be out and about and will cost around £500 to £600 for a group of 6 people. Due to the expense of this , I'm not booking it as a club trip until all who want it have paid.
Hopefully this will give you some further information about what's happening, so you can go away and speak with your employers to get days off and funding or just to be ready for the email with the dates and prices for item 1 (above) confirmed.
Items 2,3,4 may be subject to further discount if more than three people want them
Item 5, may be subject to further discount if I can find a cheaper provider, but I'm not going to look for one until I get enough emailed interest.
As always places on club trips are first to pay gets the places.
Regards
Martin Thornton
