We are planning to run a first aid course, probably one of the new BCU
aquatic first aid courses and I need to know who's interested?

The course will probably be a single day's first aid, to attain a basic
standard of first aid, it will have either an aquatic theme to the day
or a wilderness style. This means that the course is aimed at teaching
us first aid from an outdoorsy perspective, it will look at the most
likely situations that we may come across whilst paddling and will work
with the kit we have with us (or should have).

This will be a three year certification and will be of a suitable
standard to be used as a prerequisite for some of the coaching
qualifications.

The following are the BCU recommended course options

There are now three paddle sport first aid courses

Primary first aid - This is the minimum level of first aid for Level 1
and 2 coaches and anyone looking to revalidate a due to expire first aid
award (a 4hr certificate, a one day course)

Aquatic first aid - Level 1 - This is the minimum level of first aid for
all other BCU coaching qualifications (an 8 hour certificate, a two day
course)

Aquatic first aid - level 2 - syllabus isn't available yet. So I'm not
sure what this entails.

Or

We can tailor the course do something a little different.

Before I can find out what's available to us and at what cost (which
we'll always try and keep to a minimum), I need to have an idea of who's
interested.

All you have to do at the moment is drop me an email to let me know that
you are interested

Note to coaches: you are required to keep your first aid certification
up to date, to remain insured by the BCU, L1 and L2 coaches need a 4
hour certificate, L3 plus need an 8 hour certificate. Certificates in
first aid do not have to be aquatic certificates, First aid at work and
lifeguard certification are acceptable alternatives. If you have any of
these, let me know and I'll let you know if they are acceptable
alternatives.

Regards

Martin
