Hi All
The club realises that there are many members who are
capable of coaching and leading but do not hold any formal qualifications.
In order to ensure the safety of all club members on
the water, and the development of the clubs coaches and river leaders, the
following remit system will be implemented from the 1stApril 2010.
Anyone who holds any BCU awards will be able to coach
or lead within the remit that their qualification entitles them to. Anyone who
wishes to coach or lead on water above their remit (or does not have a BCU
remit at all), must apply to the committee in order to be given a “Leeds Canoe
Club Remit”.
The Leeds Canoe Club remits will be decided by the
committee and will be based upon experience as well as any formal
qualifications held. This will enable paddlers who are not interested in
pursuing the BCU line of qualifications to still coach or lead within the club.
Separate remits will be given for coaching and river
leading. The remit criteria will be based around the current BCU/UKCC coaching
and leadership qualifications. An example of a leadership remit would be “Able
to judge the suitability of the water for a given group of up to four paddlers
on water up to and including grade three”. An example of a coaching remit would
be “To introduce novices to moving water, up to and including grade two”
The committee feels this is a necessary step to take,
and rather than changing what we already do, it is simply a way of documenting
it.
Can all club members who would like to coach or lead
outside of their BCU/UKCC remit, or may wish to do so in the future, fill in
the form below and return to the committee no later than 8thJanuary
2010.
