I understand that the word on the river is that this week's planned TWO
STAR OPEN BOAT ASSESSMENT may be a little early for some people.
What I plan to do, is dummy run the two star assessment this Thursday,
this will allow you to see what's involved, hopefully take out some of
the worry. If there are area's you need to go away and work on, you'll
know what they are by the end of the evening.
My plan was for all those taking part to paddle in two's and to work as
teams, this way we'll have enough boats, whilst you'll have a second
person to give your confidence a boost / copy off.
Don't panic about it, we can redo the test as often as you want.
Those that are ready, we can assess you on Thursday if you like.
Just a quick run through of what's to do.
Straight line paddling
Forward fast, stop, sideways for 6M, backwards fast, stop, sideways for
6m (other side)
Paddling and turning, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, 270 degrees.
Shuffling the pack, slow repositioning of your open boat, into a tight
spot.
Low Brace
Rescues
We will still then need to look at mixed boat rescues, rescuing a kayak
from a canoe and vice versa, plus look at those kayak low braces
There may be some other minor bits that I've forgotten, but that's about
it.
See you on Thursday
Martin
