Hi All,
Sunday (14th June):
Down on the calendar as an Advanced trip but unlikely to be enough water
about - so we'll go for an Intermediate trip. Possibly Tees/Low Force.
Meet at clubhouse at 9.00 a.m.
Coming up:
Sunday 21st June. Leeds Canoe Club Washburn Release. Volunteers required
to help collect money, set up marquee, barbeque, etc. - any help
appreciated - whole or part day - as many of our regular volunteers will
be away in the Alps. If you can help out please let me or Kelvin know.
Sunday 28th June. Next Beginner's trip. Destination to be decided on
day.
Saturday 4th July & Sunday 5th July - Div 2 and Open Slalom on Washburn,
Saturday 18th July & Sunday 19th July Div 1 Slalom on Washburn. Esther
from Greenstar has asked if anyone can help with safety on the water at
these events. Volunteers can paddle for free afterwards. So if you are
confident of your ability to boat chase on the Washburn and have a few
hours to spare, let me or Eddie know.
Saturday 11th July. Kirkstall Festival. LCC run a 'come and try it'
day on the river beside the Abbey. Volunteers also appreciated for this
one - people with coaching quals or CST on the water doing safety, bank
support getting people kitted up and in and out of boats etc.
----------------
River Session - Tuesdays 6:00pm
An informal river session down at the clubhouse at Kirkstall. A great
chance to practice your boat skills. No formal or structured coaching
will take place but many experienced members will be on hand to help any
beginners/intermediates out. On the water for about 6:30pm.
River Session - Thursdays 6:00pm
For those who have just completed their introductory pool sessions and
others, structured coaching is available down at the clubhouse in order
for you to work towards your BCU star awards. On the water for about
6:30pm.
Pool sessions on Thursdays
Only people with bands are allowed to paddle. We are limited to the
number of boats we can have in the pool (a stipulation by the leisure
centre), so if you come late you probably won't get a boat. Please check
with me or the lifeguard BEFORE you get changed to see if there is any
space available. If there isn't space, you can try to persuade a mate
who has a band to share their boat, but the negotiations are down to
you.
If you bring your own boat it must be CLEAN (inside as well as out - no
mud, sand, dead leaves etc.), and have padding front and back. Secure
padding please - not half-hearted bits of sticky tape that come off as
soon as the boat hits the water!
We've been asked by the swimming team who are in the pool before us that
we don't go out on the pool side until they are finished. Please stay
in the changing rooms until they start to pack up.
Also - if you want to join in with the public swim after our pool
session - you need to pay in advance at reception.
Cheers,
Steve
