Hi All,
Does anyone have any recollections of Peter Livesey, who apparently
paddled with the club between 1967 - 1973?
If you do - let me know and I will reply to Robert.
A long shot - and as far as I know we don't have any club archive of
minutes/newsletters etc.
Cheers,
Steve

Subject: Pete Livesey Biography
Dear Steve,
As a purely personal project I am working on a biography of Pete
Livesey, the prolific climber, caver, athlete, fell runner, orienteer
and kayaker. I have been working on and off on this for about four
years and have met, spoken to and/or corresponded with a great number of
Pete's friends, family, colleagues, and buddies from Pete's many and
varied sporting careers.
In the course of this, I have of course spoken to both Kevin Jenkinson
and Jeff Slater who were close contemporaries of Pete's and were members
variously of Leeds Canoe Club, West Yorks Canoe Club and their own
two-man club "Snibbo."
I have also camped in the British Library and read through "Canoeing in
Britain" from 1965 to 1974 (the period during which Pete was primarily
kayaking) and have come across a small number of events that Pete was
entered in or won while with Leeds (or sometimes as Bingley, though he
may have blagged this).
I am aware that what is shown in the journals of the day is probably
only a partial and incomplete record of activities and I am aware I am
probably missing a lot of material.
Does the club have an archive or is there a store of club news,
periodicals or records of the club's activities? Might I get access to
it if I come up to Leeds?
Apart from Kevin and Jeff, are there any members or former members of
the club who were close contemporaries of Pete's (born 1943 died 1998)
and who might be interested in speaking to me and sharing anecdotes or
reminiscences of the activities of the club in the period?
Pete came into canoeing/kayaking around 1967 after he and caving went
separate ways (after the Mossdale accident and Gouffre Berger) and he
went on to climbing in a big way in around 1973. Between these dates he
continued to cave and climb, but I think canoeing/kayaking was more to
the fore than at any other time in his life and I am very keen to get
more colour and anecdote on this period if possible.
Yours hopefully,
Rob Seymour
