Subject: CANCELLED Swale Charity Paddle

Unfortunately, the weather gods are against us - the level on the pre-paddle
was below the bottom of the gauge and a small group that knew the river well
still took the best part of six hours to get down to Richmond. The level
today is several inches lower, so we really advise strongly against travelling
to Swaledale - SOC will not be providing driver shuttle, nor sending a first
group down the river. We reckon a group to paddle sweep could not get to
Richmond in daylight setting off after twelve, so effectively we are
cancelling the event entirely.

Of course, negotiated access for the weekend still applies, so if you
are already committed to be in the area and have nothing to do apart
from drag boats down the river, you are welcome to do so, but we do
feel it would be more rewarding to bring walking boots or bikes...

Andy Waddington,

SOC Canoe Section Organiser.
