Hi All,
This is the first level course for people wishing to become a paddlesports coach. The course covers all elements of the syllabus. Including the foundation safety and rescue test. Students on the course will leave able to operate under direct supervision or under remote supervision depending on experience and aptitude.
Students should have the 2 star award (old 2 star kayak AND 2 star canoe acceptable). Student MUST register with the BCU and complete parts of the coach level 1 workbook that they will receive prior to the course. following the course a personalised action plan will be designed and administration forwarded to the BCU who will issue licences following a successful CRB check.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE IS BOAT BASED AND THE 2 STAR AWARD IS A PREREQUISITE
Modules covered include:
* Risk Assessment
* Group Management
* Basic Teaching Strategies
* Use of games within teaching
* Supervisory skills for the coach
* Opportunities for mentored practice
* Completion of assessment tasks
* Safety and rescue skills
* All Assessment tasks.
Previous Experience You will need to hold the new 2 star personal performance award or both old 2 star canoe and kayak tests. A valid first aid certificate is not required but is highly recommended.
PLEASE ENSURE you contact the British Canoe Union (www.bcu.org.uk) and complete any pre course administration and paperwork prior to attending the course, and bring all paperwork with you.
NON residential
Location: Aldwark Scout Activity Centre, Near Boroughbridge
Cost; £250 per person + BCU registration fees (60% refund/funding from the Yorkshire coaching bursary - see http://www.yandh-coachingbursary.co.uk/ also funding available from the Scout Association should mean a free course) - £75 with booking form to secure your place!
Dates: Sept 26/27 & Oct 3/4
I would recommend booking early as the course is already starting to fill and get your bursary sorted out too (there is only 1250 bursary pots covering ALL sports)
