Hi All,
Pool session this evening - we have a new intake of beginners so any coaching assistance appreciated.
Sunday (10th May):
Beginner's trip - meet at clubhouse at 8.00 a.m. Early start to avoid the road closures for the Leeds Half Marathon. Destination - River Ure at Slenningford Water Mill nr Ripon. (n.b. there is a £3.50 fee for parking and use of facilities at the mill campsite).
If you have not been before, the clubhouse is in the grounds of the Rugby Academy, next to Morrisson's supermarket. Park in the Rugby Academy carpark.

Ideally you should have a wetsuit, but you can probably get by, now the weather is warming up a bit, with some old clothes/trainers you don't mind getting wet. A nylon cagoule, running top or similar is advisable over the top to keep the wind off. Cars with roof-racks will be helpful - but don't worry if you don't have transport - we can sort out lifts.
Coming up:
Sunday 10th May Family Fun Day at White Rose Canoe Club/Roundhay Park. 10.00a.m. - 4.00 p.m. Have a go at bell boating, sprint, slalom, polo and more. Contact gareth at bcu.org.uk for more details.
Friday May 22nd - Monday May 25th
Camping weekend to North Wales - probably staying at Ty Isaf campsite nr Bala.http://www.tyisafbala.co.uk/tyisaf_site_page_map.html
Gives us the option of the Tryweryn and/or a day trip to the coast (Abersoch) kayak surfing if the surf is up.
Suitable for all abilities - we can take beginners on the Lower Tryweryn (Grade II+), intermediates and advanced can do the Upper.
(I'm assuming there will be a release over the Bank Holiday - if not we'll think of something else).
Anyone interested contact me asap so I can give the campsite some idea of numbers.
----------------
Pool sessions on Thursdays
Only people with bands are allowed to paddle. We are limited to the number of boats we can have in the pool (a stipulation by the leisure centre), so if you come late you probably won't get a boat. Please check with me or the lifeguard BEFORE you get changed to see if there is any space available. If there isn't space, you can try to persuade a mate who has a band to share their boat, but the negotiations are down to you.
If you bring your own boat it must be CLEAN (inside as well as out - no mud, sand, dead leaves etc.), and have padding front and back. Secure padding please - not half-hearted bits of sticky tape that come off as soon as the boat hits the water!
We've been asked by the swimming team who are in the pool before us that we don't go out on the pool side until they are finished. Please stay in the changing rooms until they start to pack up.
Also - if you want to join in with the public swim after our pool session - you need to pay in advance at reception.
Cheers,
Steve
