Subject: The Regional night of the year ACM
Tell 'yer mates. Thank you.
Dear Yorkshire
Regional Paddler and Coach,
You are invited to the
regions ACM at Ossett Cricket Club on Tuesday 27th Oct for a full and
interesting evening.
This year we are inviting
all the regions members and combining the Regional
Development Team and the Regional Coaching Team to
have a joint ACM. Come and find out what's happening.
Top of the Bill this year is fascinating.
In 1975 an intrepid team
set off to paddle 500 miles to Northcape in the far flung region of
the artic circle at the very top of Norway. Having influenced the design of the
kayak, the legendary Nordkapp was born. This was the first Sea Kayak to have dry
hatches to aid the provision of gear. One of these influential and necky
paddlers was a Yorkshire paddler called Colin Litten (Bradford &
Bingley CC).
This summer as part of a
repeat expedition, 5 paddlers all in Nordkapp's repeated the same trip.
Two of the 2009 expedition were Colins 2 sons Josh & Sam. One of them
paddled in his Dad's original Nordkapp!
So, 34 years on same boat, same
journey and same family name!
Using slides from the
original expedition, with new ones taken this summer and video footage, the Team
members will explain how this iconic trip changed sea kayaking as we know it
today. Was it any easier with all our modern materials? Well if I begin by
saying its not even as easy to sail across the North sea as it was in 1975,
you will begin to get the message.
So come and find out
who's who and what's what and if you are getting enough!
West Yorkshire Canoe
Club are again our hosts and providing the legendary Horbury Cow pie n' peas. So
come and join the fun. Full bar facilities. Full agenda available from your
regional secretary Jon Dakeyne at jdakeyne at aol.com
Starts at 7.15 in
the Cricket Club, Queens Terrace, Ossett WF5 8AP .
Dick
